I made cookies today!! IN OTHER NEWS: God has a plan for everything. I cannot find a job, I've been "bleh," and I feel useless to my friend. I have tried contacting other friends in the area and NO ONE has responded. I don't want to start back up where there were frayed ends after high school -- those people. . . I shouldn't contact them, let's just leave it at that. Sure my two best girl friends are around and they can talk, but one can't be around all the time and the other is the one I mentioned above where I feel useless to her. She has her own issues that I don't feel "qualified" to help with because of my own issues that I can't get over! But God has a plan. I don't know what that plan is and I don't know when He's going to reveal it to me, BUT HE HAS A PLAN. That's the only thing I can hold on to for a while. Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Well, it's summer break. GOOD. I need a break. The best summer-time snack (in my opinion of course) is popcorn and strawberries. :) You get the buttery, salty crunch of the popcorn. . . . . . And the sweet, juicy tang of the strawberries! They compliment each other perfectly. Perfect for any day during the summer, rain or shine! Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 10:31 Today's verse for me is 1 Corinthians 10:31 "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." We're supposed to do EVERYTHING to the glory of God. Not just church and praise and reading our Bibles, but eating, working, and school! He gives us an opportunity every day and many moments throughout the day to witness to people about Him. It's on our own that we pass up those opportunities when we should be living out that verse and taking those opportunities and turning them to God. Try just a day of Blessings. One day where you don't complain but you just count your blessings. Sure, you may not have much money and your family might be broken, but God gave you breath in your lungs today. He has given you safety, too. Good luck, my friends, and God bless! My friend and I play Minecraft often (yes, I'm aware that it's a younger game, but I honestly do enjoy mining without the risk of truly dying). Last night, we were looking for skins for our characters. I found the LAZAR guy in a suit for my character and my friend asked me to find one for him. Well, I did. I found Hermione Granger for him. He changed his skin then I threw a wooden stick at him to complete the look. As you can see to the left, he can really pull off that character. LOL Everyone hates food poisoning. And what happens to me today? Possible food poisoning. WOO. I missed half of my classes today because of it. Woke up to my first alarm and almost passed out. Woke up to my second alarm and almost "lost it" everywhere. Went to my first class and survived for the most part. Chapel? Fine, other than the pounding music making my migraine worse. Next class I sat in there for maybe five or ten minutes and finally I was told to just go back to my dorm and rest. Went to my sociology class and suffered horribly through my midterm, then came back here and slept again. DON'T GET FOOD POISONING. It makes EVERYTHING miserable.
I'm so happy! Tonight, my school's coffee shop and cafe had Homemade Chicken Salad on a Croissant Roll! I was standing there, debating between getting one of the set meals that are usually on Thursdays or getting this mystery Chicken Salad. Well let me tell you, I am REALLY glad I chose the Chicken Salad. That stuff was so good! I don't even regret eating that roll (even though I have a gluten allergy). So other than my TASTY food for dinner, I'm going to tell you a little about stuff. I only have one class EVER on Thursdays. It's my ASL class. THAT'S RIGHT! I'm taking ASL. For those of you who don't know what ASL is, I'll tell you what it is! ASL is an acronym for American Sign Language. Now that's something most people should have at least heard of before. You see, I'm taking this class not only as my foreign language credit for school, but also because I know quite a few deaf folks back in my hometown! I'd like to talk to them using their own language, you know? And it's not like this stuff is EASY either. Sure, the alphabet and numbers 1-10 are pretty simple and easy to remember, but there is so much more than that! There are even some entire English PHRASES that only have one sign! And not only that, but ASL has its own grammar too--just like any other language! I mentioned it earlier, but I'm taking this class as my foreign language for my school. People often ask me "Is ASL even considered a foreign language?" OF COURSE IT IS! Think about it this way... Are YOU fluent in ASL? NO? Well then it's FOREIGN to you! So what is the point of someone who is hearing learning ASL? Well there are a few reasons. As I said earlier, I have friends who are deaf or hard of hearing and I'd really like to be able to talk to them with no problem or breakdown in communication. Another major reason is for Interpreting. Now what is an interpreter and what is the point? Well, I'll tell you one thing, that man to the left isn't an interpreter. DO NOT ASSUME THAT EVERYONE WHO SIGNS IS AN INTERPRETER! The definition of an interpreter is a person who provides an oral or visual translation between speakers who speak different languages. But the point of an interpreter of ASL is to bridge the awkward gap between hearing and deaf speakers. I asked three of my friends, who are interpreting majors, why they wanted to become interpreters in the first place. One of my friends didn't exactly have an answer for me. But another one of my friends said that she really wants to be able to minister to the deaf community. She wants a way to bring Jesus to people who are still lost in Sin. This will be a great opportunity for her to do something she enjoys for people who need Christ just as much as the hearing community do. Finally, my roommate wants to become an interpreter because of her twin brother. He is deaf and she has seen the struggle that her family, especially her father, has when trying to communicate with him. I find that that is a very noble reason to want to become an interpreter. She has a very personal connection with the community. Interpreting is very important for everyone. For the deaf to be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas clearly to the hearing community and for the hearing to be able to communicate back. Between every language there is a bridge that needs to be built so that confusion can be avoided in life. The best way that this bridge can be constructed is through interpreters and even other people learning basic conversational norms for those languages. Mark 16:15 says "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Guess what?! That includes the Deaf community, as well. EVERY CREATURE! Think about it... there is even a song about this! "We've a story to tell to the nations!" So what do we have to do? GET OUT AND SPREAD THE WORD! God Bless! Aria It’s REALLY hard for someone like me to “eat healthy.” I hate how expensive gluten free products are in this society, it’s truly unnecessary. I’m mean really 10.99 for a box of Gluten Free Bisquik? CRAZY! All I want is to eat food…. That is good…. AND gluten free….. (oh yeah… and inexpensive). Is that really so much to ask?
Aside from all that nonsense… I ALMOST DIED TONIGHT! I’m allergic to bananas and the allergy has grown from a moderate discomfort to a severe possible death experience. WELL, we had peanut butter sandwiches at our dining commons tonight and my roommate was like “Oh they’re really good! You should try one!” We asked if there was only peanut butter on it and the nice lady said yes. So I took one. We sat down at our usual table and I began to eat my mashed potatoes while my roommate ate her peanut butter sandwich. A weird look crossed her face and she suddenly took my sandwich saying “Don’t eat this, Aria. There is banana in it.” She moved my sandwich to the other side of the table and thus SAVED MY LIFE! She’s awesome, that girl. Too bad she abandons me every Wednesday. |
