This isn't technically a movie, per se, but a short pilot of a television series called Night Gallery. My mother suggested this one to me :) It's really good! So worth watching! So my roommates and I watched Frozen tonight. Time for my review! I originally did NOT want to see this movie. It was WAY too popular WAY too quickly. I didn't see what the big deal was! But, I promised my roommate that I'd watch it. Well, we began the movie and I was skeptical as usual. I have to say though, this movie was wonderful! The graphics were phenomenal! Speaking from experience, ice and hair are two of the hardest things to create and then animate properly and in this movie, the animations were FLAWLESS. The flow of the ice and the draping of the hair of all the characters, including Sven the reindeer! SPOILER TIME! Well let's get to this. This movie is about a pair of sisters from the Kingdom of Arendelle (Anna and Elsa) who, when they were young, were the BEST of friends. They had been playing one day though and the younger sister (Anna) was injured by the elder (Elsa) who had magical powers of ice and snow. After that unfortunate incident, the Elsa practically shut Anna out of her life for fear of hurting her again. Well eventually came the time of Elsa's coronation (did I mention that they were princesses?). Anna had met this prince, named Hans, and at the spur of the moment they decided they wanted to marry. Going to the new queen for her blessing, Anna and Hans shocked everyone at the coronation. Elsa quickly became angry and her power that she kept hidden for so long was once again found out when she caused ice spikes to come up from the floor. Elsa ran to the North Mountain for solitude and freedom from prosecution. Elsa's anger and pain caused Arendelle to fall under a spell of perpetual Winter. Anna was very worried about the towns folk of Arendelle harming Elsa and decided to go make things right with her sister. She left Hans in charge of the Kingdom while she was away and went off on horseback into the frozen land and soon came across a little cabin where she met Kristoff, an ice salesman, and Sven, Kristoff's trusty reindeer. Anna petitions Kristoff and Sven to take her to the North Mountain and as they are traveling that first night, wolves begin to chase them. As they are being chased, they come across a massive cliff. Kristoff has Sven carry Anna and he cuts the sled free of Sven's reigns, causing the sled to fall and shockingly explode at the foot of the cliff. They leave the wolves behind on the opposite side of the drop off and begin their trek again. Anna, Kristoff, and Sven come across beautiful ice covered trees. As they are walking among these surprisingly pretty (and entertaining to Sven) ice chains, they hear a voice. It turns out that the snowman that Elsa had created while running away had turned to life. This snowman, named Olaf, made quick friends (after an awkward introduction) with the three travelers. He decided to tag along because what else better to do than to go and visit his creator? They finally find Elsa's Ice Castle and go up to the huge doors. Anna tells Kristoff and Olaf to wait outside. "Give me a minute," she tells them. Olaf and Kristoff sit down outside the door and Olaf begins to count the minute. Anna goes to find her sister and follows Elsa to her main room where they once again have a fight. Elsa's anger causes her (Elsa) to shoot an icy blast through Anna. Kristoff and Olaf run to her rescue where Elsa creates a Snow Golem that kicks them out of her new castle. This golem chases the three until they eventually fall off yet another cliff. Sven finds them at the bottom and they decide to go visit Kristoff's family. When they arrive at Kristoff's home, all Anna and Olaf see are hundreds of rocks laying around in a clearing. Kristoff and Sven go about greeting the rocks and soon they unroll to reveal that they are all trolls! The trolls realize that their "son" has brought home a girl and try to wed them, when Anna becomes suddenly weak and her hair grows white. The Elder Troll comes forward then and explains that the icy blast that Elsa shot through Anna has frozen her heart and only an act of love can thaw it. Kristoff decides to take Anna back to Arendelle so she and Hans can share true love's kiss. Little do they know that Elsa has been captured by this point and is being held captive in Arendelle's dungeons. Kristoff, Anna, Sven, and Olaf return to Arendelle "just in time." Kristoff hands Anna off to Hans and asks him to keep her safe and warm. Hans soon reveals to Anna that he is only after the throne and leaves her to die alone. Elsa breaks free from her chains and escapes the dungeons. As she runs, a snow storm appears and begins to cover the world in even more snow. Kristoff decides to turn back to find Anna with only a little bit of nudging from Sven. "Some people are worth melting for." During this time, Olaf has found Anna and is making a fire for her to try to keep her warm. Olaf, being a snowman, would melt if he gets too close to the fire and Anna warns him of this. He informs her that he is doing it out of love. Anna tells him that she doesn't know anything about love and Olaf tells her that "love is... putting someone else's needs before yours." The window then blows open bringing the cold into the room and Olaf sees Kristoff and Sven running back to Arendelle. He once again helps Anna out of the castle and into the cold to get to Kristoff, her true love. As everyone is struggling across the frozen fjord, Hans finds Elsa and goes to end the eternal Winter for good. Anna sees her sister in peril and runs to her just as she freezes completely, shattering Hans' sword as he strikes her frozen hand, saving Elsa. Anna is now completely frozen and Elsa becomes heartbroken and hugs Ice Anna tightly. Slowly, from her heart, Anna begins to thaw. Kristoff and Sven are given a new sled. Elsa grants Olaf a personal flurry so he won't melt. The townsfolk are all at peace once they find out that Elsa isn't that bad (she freezes the castle courtyard so everyone can skate). And Anna and Kristoff, of course, become a couple. Arendelle is at peace, Elsa and Anna have their childhood relationship back, and the world is no longer a frozen mess. Family struggles. Wrong love. Strong friendships. All in all, this movie was a wonderful experience! It definitely stands out from other productions from Disney and will be a memorable creation for years to come. I really think Disney outdid themselves this time.
